Assoc. Prof. Barbara Šteh
Barbara Šteh was born in December of 1965 and is a Doctor of Psychological Sciences. She earned her Bachelor’s degree at the Faculty of Arts in Ljubljana in 1989, her Master’s in 1998 and her PhD in 2000. She is an Associate Professor of Educational Psychology at the Department of Educational Sciences, where she teaches several undergraduate and graduate courses: Educational Psychology, Selected Themes in Educational Psychology, Psychology of Learning in Adult Education, and Experiential Learning. In her own teaching, she implements active and experience-based teaching methods and mentors many students. At the department she is active in the role of a coordinator when it comes to providing conditions for successful studies for all who apply for a special status because of various reasons (excellent results in the field of sports, art and culture, students who are parents and students with special needs).
Her research interests include the quality of learning and teaching: studying the role of conceptions of learning, knowledge and teaching, the role of teachers and students, the implementation of active learning methods, the induction of quality assessment and the question of ensuring quality cooperation between teachers, counselling services, students, parents and the community. Apart from that, her primary interests are the quality of higher education, encouraging and developing critical reflection, developing a learning community, and teachers' professional development. From 2004 onwards, she is a part of a research project Pedagogical and Andragogical studies – Learning and education for a good quality life in community. During the years 2016 and 2017 she acted as a project leader of the Bilateral Project between the Republic of Slovenia and the Republic of Serbia titled Preparing Students of Educational Studies for Working in Inclusive Settings, which dealt with the topical problematic of creating a more open, tolerant and inclusive society. From 2013 to 2018, she was included as a researcher in the project titled Teachers' Professional Development: Status and transversal competencies, carried out under the University of Rijeka. From 2018 onwards, she has also been included in the project Innovative learning and teaching in higher education (INOVUP).
Since January 2003 she has been a member of the international association ISATT (International Study Association on Teachers and Teaching), which connects teachers and researchers from numerous countries whose field of work is encouragement of the teachers’ professional development. Since 2015 she has been a national representative for the association. She has since January of 1994, in line with her professional activity, carried out more than 50 workshops for teachers on all levels of education, mentors, councillors and other experts either in group or by herself. Furthermore, she is internationally active on the field of the quality of pedagogical work at the University. In recent years she has given lectures as a part of Erasmus+ programme at the Krakow Academy in 2017 and at the University of Rijeka in 2019. In 2018 she has been invited to carry out a two day course for the higher education teachers at the University of Thomas Bata in Zlin together with her colleague Jana Kalin.
