Asst. Prof. Dr. Ana Sarah Lunaček Brumen

Sarah Lunaček studied ethnology, cultural anthropology, and cultural sociology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, graduating with a thesis on African cinema. Employed as a young researcher at the Department of Asian (and African) Studies, she obtained her doctorate at the Department of Sociology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, on the topic of the perception of Europeans and representations of the West in Agadez (Niger). She completed her postdoctoral studies at the University of Belgrade and at MMSH in Aix-en-Provence. She continues her fieldwork among the Tuaregs in northern Niger on the topics of pastoral nomadism, sedentarisation, development, extractivism, decentralisation, gender and migration. In addition to classical ethnographic methods, she uses collaborative approaches of visual anthropology. She teaches courses related to anthropology and Africa, visual anthropology, and sometimes other coruses, like contemporary debates in anthropology. She is responsible for cooperation with several universities in Africa.
