The emphasis will be on the development of the Japanese music from Meiji Restoration (1868) on.
We will discuss the main musical characteristic from the periods: 1868 to 1945, the period from the 1945 year on, popular music, traditional music in the 20th century. We will encounter the most important Japanese composer of the 20th century Toru Takemitsu, whose music will help us to explain the so called phenomenom of »double musical structure« - the coexistence of Japanese and Western music through which Japanese contemporaray music developed.
