Überblick über die Literaturepochen und Traditionen vom Vormärz zum Naturalismus: Vormärz (Heine, Büchner, Grabbe), Biedermeier (Droste Hülshoff, Grillparzer, Mörike, Stifter, Gotthelf), poetischer Realismus (Storm, Keller, Fontane etc.), Naturalismus (Hauptmann) bis 1900.
Entwicklung von Lyrik, Epik und Dramatik; Etablierung ästhetischer und literarischer Normen, des literarischen Kanons; kulturelle, historische, gesellschaftspolitische und –kritische sowie ästhetische Bedeutung von Literatur.
